"Garden Variety"

9 x 12"

oil on masonite

Very much a 'zen' painting for me. Quiet and still. I spend a lot of time avoiding greens, mostly the grassy greens - once in a while I get brave and try it. I don't like to paint pretty garden pieces - don't much care to paint florals either - but this setting, the young woman, the ease, is what I found pleasing.

I love this painting.....I love green. My question for you is do you have a camera with you at all times and you snap away? Or are some of these paintings from a memory? Your colors always get me, especially how you use gray and white to set everything off. You are just extraordinary.

I do have a camera with me at all times. I basically pick a city, take about 2000 photos in a couple of days and go home and paint. Usually no painting is taken literally from a photo - memory does come into play at times too. And thank you for your comment.

Hi Karin- I love your stuff and watch your blog religiously. I just started painting from photos and have wondered about this too. Do you ask people if they mind having their picture taken? If not, do you get strange looks while snapping photos of strangers? I'd love to do this but am not sure of the etiquette. I hope you don't mind my asking...
