"Side Glances"

8 x 8"
oil on masonite

I tried something different - by painting on a bright red ground color. The trick is to take advantage of the undertone and allow it to come through in the edges and painted areas. It works particularly well with skin tones - I love the results.

Bright red? Pray tell, which red do you use that might be lean?

I used a latex red paint on top of the gessoed hardboard - the brightest I could find.

I love the red. It is so vibrant, makes the painting glow.

Latex. Hm, I know nothing about latex paints, guess I have something to learn!

Thanks!

Karin, the experimenting you're doing in your work with color and a looser style is really giving it oomph. This one is especially nice. I see you saying 'yes' to your special artist vision and not just reproducing the 'reality.' Love it!
